Government In Action Youth Tour

2017 GOVERNMENT-IN-ACTION YOUTH TOUR 

 

Each year KCEC in conjunction New Mexico Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NMRECA) hosts the statewide Government-In-Action Youth Tour Contest. This contest was open to all full time junior students within the KCEC service territory. Each applicant submitted a 750 word essay on the following topic

“Describe the impact of Rural Cooperatives in a small community. How does Kit Carson Electric impact your community?

The contest winners receive an all-expense paid trip to our nation’s capital Washington D.C., to learn about government issues pertaining to rural America and to understand the importance of local electric cooperatives. Students will travel on June 7-16, 2017 they will also visit with their legislative leaders and tour sites of historical significance. 

Good luck on writing your essays, keep up the good work and continue to be leaders. Kit Carson Electric Cooperative is a proud and excited to offer this “once in a lifetime experience” to our winners.

What is the Government-in-Action Youth Tour?Youth Tour

Every June, as many as 1,500 high school students from across the country spend a week in the nation's capital as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. The students are sponsored by electric cooperatives – cooperatives that are committed to educating America's rural youth about America and the role electric cooperatives play in developing strong rural communities.

Participating in the Youth Tour is an awesome way to learn about this great nation, develop leadership skills, gain a better understanding of electric cooperatives, and make friendships that may last a lifetime!
