KCEC to Hire Local Contractor, Parasol Solar, Llc.

Kit Carson Electric Cooperative Announces an Agreement to Hire Local Contractor, Parasol Solar, Llc.

Taos, N.M. based Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) announced today that the engineering, procurement and contracting (EPC) construction for five solar arrays will go to the Taos company, ParaSol Solar, LLC. ParaSol Solar, LLC is a consortium between Paradise Power Company (PPC) and Los Ebanistas, Inc. (Sol Luna Solar).

The project will build five additional solar arrays throughout KCEC’s service area as the second phase in a multi-year effort to achieve an installation target of 35 megawatts of renewable energy generation for daytime solar energy. KCEC is committed to the development of renewable energy, the creation of local jobs, and energy cost stabilization. The announcement of this work signals a working partnership that will build a healthy, equitable, and regenerative economy.

KCEC’s CEO, Luis Reyes, has been committed to building Taos’ economic development foundation through hiring local expertise from the beginning of his leadership with KCEC. Mr. Reyes has continually focused on building Taos’ capacity to provide professional services locally, statewide and nationally, whether within KCEC or with partners in the community.

“Our decision to recommend ParaSol Solar, LLC as our EPC partner was intended to build a world-class solar fleet. The re-emphasizes demonstrates KCEC’s commitment to our local labor force and to economic development within the region. We are grateful to our partner, Guzman Renewable Energy Partners in facilitating this opportunity. It is a true win-win for our community and rural electric cooperatives,” noted Luis Reyes.

ParaSol Solar, LLC is the type of collaboration that models the future of renewable energy installations in Northern New Mexico. The EPC contract, being a local engagement (engineering, procurement and contracting), ensures the recirculation of monies four times over into the Enchanted Circle economy. Instead of two thirds of monies leaving Taos, this contract will direct monies towards employment that pays a fair living wage while demonstrating ParaSol’s competitiveness for large scale solar array installations.

“Though PPC and Sol Luna Solar often compete for customers, coming together was what needed to happen to keep the project local,” commented Marti MacDonald, PPC Solar’s Operations and Administration Manager.

“Kit Carson Electric Cooperative is paving the way to a viable renewable energy future for our area. Sol Luna Solar and PPC see a great opportunity in keeping our jobs local and keeping the money generated from these projects in the local economy. By partnering we are able to do just that,” said Megan Johnson, Marketing Manager, Sol Luna Solar.

This partnership establishes a solid foundation for future economic development in the renewable energy sector for both ParaSol Solar, LLC and KCEC.
