Dear KCEC Members,
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect Saturday from 12 PM to 10 PM across Kit Carson Electric Cooperative’s entire service territory. Forecasts call for strong winds and critical fire weather conditions, increasing wildfire risk across northern New Mexico this weekend.
To help protect our communities, non-reclose safety settings will be placed in several areas. These settings prevent power lines from automatically re-energizing if they are struck by debris or vegetation during high-risk weather. While this helps reduce wildfire ignition risk, temporary outages may occur if a line is impacted.
Areas expected to be placed on non-reclose include:
• Ute Park
• Black Lake to Hidden Lake and Black Lake Resorts
• El Valle
• Ojo Sarco
• Rockwall to Mora County Line (including Tres Ritos, Sipapu, and Loma Linda)
• Cabresto
• Vallecitos, Petaca, and Servilleta
• Upper Red River area
• Taos Canyon
• Idlewild
• Lake View Pines
• Eagle Nest to Elizabethtown
We encourage members in these areas to prepare for the possibility of temporary outages by charging phones and essential devices and staying informed through KCEC updates and local weather alerts.
Our operations teams will continue monitoring weather conditions closely throughout the weekend and will provide updates if conditions change.
Thank you for helping us keep our communities safe.
