Job Description
As a Fiber Optic Technician for Kit Carson Internet, you will serve customers by installing and servicing systems and products.
What you’ll do:
- Responsible for the testing of fiber optic cable; along with displaying and interpreting results for the purpose of analyzing and documenting fiber optic links. Ability to operate the following devices:
- Responsible for successfully joining optical fibers using a fusion splicer. Attaining a low loss splice through a proficient cleave (cut) and splice is required
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Understanding and Knowledge of system design and map layout.
- Ability to operate walk behind trencher, knowledge of the NM811 rules and state laws pertaining to trenching.
- Ability to safely operate a bucket truck
- After attaining Pole Climbing Certification, complete splicing through pole climbing.
- Travel extensively through our service area
- Must be available for weekend, night shifts, on call duty, emergency calls or on demand appointments as required or directed by Company representatives or answering service; responding as required and/or directed
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule in order to meet customer demands/schedule
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Perform other duties as assigned
- (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) – measures end-to-end loss, point losses such as splices, connectors and fiber breaks
- – displays system loss over the fiber and both end connectors
- Basic smartphone and computer skills
- All other duties as needed.
What you bring:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico motor vehicle operator’s license and a driving record that permits coverage under the Cooperative’s vehicle insurance policy. CDL preferred but not required.
- Fiber and installation experience preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred.
