Amalia II Solar & Battery Facility
Project Description
Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) executed a Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”) for a 8.75 MW solar array with 8.75 MW / 17.5 MWh of battery storage. Named Amalia II, the renewable energy facility will be constructed in Amalia, NM.The Amalia II solar with battery storage site is targeted for completion in the second quarter of 2025. The first phase, Amalia I, began commercial operations in May 2012 and provides 1.25 MW of solar power generation. The Amalia II facility will be the second largest solar facility, which will put KCEC local solar power generation footprint to approximately 50 MW.
Taos Pueblo Solar & Battery Facility
Project Description
The United States Department of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations awarded $10 million to Taos Pueblo, Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) and International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology (ICAST) as part of the federal governments commitment to fund 17 projects across the U.S. to expand access to renewable energy on Native American reservations and in other rural areas. This project is a 5 MW solar and 5 MW / 10MWh of battery storage.
El Rito North Array Solar Facility
Project Description
On State Road 522, just north of the Village of Questa, the solar array is 1.5 MW in El Rito, NM . The El Rito North array, which
went online in January 2020, consists of 6,048 solar panels.
