Kit Carson Electric Cooperative and Guzman Energy Award Scholarship Funds to Northern New Mexico Students

TAOS, NM – May 18, 2023– Today Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) and Guzman Energy have joined forces to provide $39,000 worth of scholarship funds to 26 northern New Mexico students who are pursuing higher education or workforce training.

Guzman Energy, the cooperative’s wholesale power provider has been a partner of KCEC since 2017, and is helping KCEC meet its goal of providing 100% daytime solar energy by 2022 through the development and commissioning of several solar arrays throughout the region, including the recently built Taos, El Rito and Questa arrays.

Over the past five years, Guzman Energy has helped bolster the KCEC Foundation scholarship program. Since 1997, the KCEC Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarship funds to students throughout its territory, giving them the financial support to help them successfully transition into their college careers.

“We are proud and honored to partner with KCEC and support students in northern New Mexico further their education or workplace training,” said Jeffrey M. Heit, Principal, Managing Director, Guzman Energy. “It’s extremely important to us to be active participants in the local community, and there is nothing that builds up a community more than education.”

Aimed at implementing multiple initiatives to benefit northern New Mexico communities served by KCEC, the Guzman Foundation works to foster competitiveness and spur greater opportunity in the communities it serves through academic scholarships and school-support initiatives that develop critical thinking and inspire creativity.

“KCEC is excited to present these deserving students with dollars towards furthering their education or in workforce training and we are grateful for the generous support from Guzman Energy,” said Luis A. Reyes, Jr., Kit Carson CEO. “Guzman has been a true partner, and their investment in our people and community – especially our students and future leaders – is remarkable.”
