Job Description
As a Mechanic Helper for KCEC you will assist in the services and maintenance of motorized vehicles and other tools and equipment necessary to the Cooperative’s operations and delivery of electric power to consumers.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist the Mechanic with the scheduled routine maintenance services on vehicles and equipment.
- Helps provide maintenance logs, files and records related to duties; will purchase or recommend purchase of parts and supplies necessary.
- Responsible for some custodial duties to maintain a safe and orderly work area and disposes of used supplies and fluids in accordance with regulations
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairing inoperable vehicles and equipment.
- Assist in ensuring that warranty and guarantee provisions are met by suppliers and vendors.
- Purchases or recommends purchase of parts and supplies necessary for vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair.
- May recommend retirement or disposition of aged vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain a safe and orderly work area and dispose of used supplies and fluids in accordance with regulations.
- Operates or otherwise uses hand operated, electric, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic tools and equipment necessary to performance of duties, including, but not limited to hand tools, electric or air-driven tools, electronic testers and analyzers, scopes, gauges, grinders, welders, milling heads, drills, etc.
- As required, attends training/development sessions and activities relating to position functions.
What you bring:
- High School education or GED certificate, required.
- Some post high school formal education in automotive/vehicular equipment repair and maintenance is preferred.
- Must have a valid CDL.
Working Conditions; Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
- Although duties are primarily performed indoors, occasions will exist under critical or emergency situations that require work under field conditions, subjecting the incumbent to temperature variations, inclement weather, and unimproved terrain conditions.
- Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, crouching, and working in awkward positions is required.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and otherwise moving heavy objects is required, as is climbing on and about vehicular equipment.
- Hazards associated with the position are those normally attendant to heavy vehicle and equipment maintenance and include falls, cuts, scrapes, bruises, electrical shock, exposure to petroleum-based oils and fluids and working with and around vehicles and moving parts and equipment.
- Normal levels of spatial ability; hearing, visual and speech acuity; eye-hand coordination, color discernment; form perception; manual dexterity; and bodily equilibrium and balance are necessary.
The incumbent must possess and demonstrate the cognitive skills and abilities to perform the following activities on a regular basis: read; write; perform mathematical calculations; weigh; measure; read and calibrate gauges and instruments; read and interpret diagrams and schematics; implement orders/directives; analyze and solve problems; evaluate results from data; present written and oral information to others; organize personal work assignments; adhere closely to fixed standards/methods/procedures; and adjust to constantly changing duties.
