Job Description
As an Electric Systems Engineer for KCEC, you will be responsible for providing professional engineering
expertise in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the physical plant and its ancillary
components. This position will plan, organize, and direct the activities of these employees engaged in staking,
right-of-way acquisition, permitting, and the engineering section clerical and administrative duties.
What You’ll Do:
-Meet and confer with key personnel to exchange information with respect to system planning, design
specifications, construction and maintenance projects.
-Receives projects plans and objectives, reviews technical data; designs configuration and determines
materials/equipment specifications for all construction projects.
-Prepares and submits estimated cost studies.
-Prepares and submits materials/equipment lists for material scheduling, control and purchasing use.
-Performs analysis studies relating to the project with respect to transformer specifications, conductor
wire size, fuses, breakers, switch gear, etc.
-Coordinates and directs the activities of those employees engaged in right-of-way administration and
staking.
-Ensures compliance with all policies, laws, regulations, codes and ordinances that control right-of-way
acquisition, permitting, staking, design configuration, system safety, and construction procedures and
practices.
What you bring:
-Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
-Some additional formal training in the basics of mechanical engineering and civil engineering is
preferred.
-Must possess sufficient prior work experience during which knowledge of electric power distribution
systems and the skills and abilities to perform the position’s functions have been amply demonstrated.
Working Conditions:
-Although many of the position’s duties are performed in an inside office setting, the incumbent is
often required to be present at construction and repair/maintenance sites.
-Sitting, standing, walking, stooping and bending is required.
-Lifting requirements are minimal.
-The incumbent will be subject to inclement weather, unimproved terrain and the normal hazards
associated with electric utility construction, maintenance, and service activities.
